What does it mean to be Neurodiversity Affirming?

Neurodiversity is the idea that individuals experience and interact with the world in various ways. There is no one way of expressing, learning, thinking, or behaving, yet at times differences can be seen as problematic. When an individual experiences such differences, they are considered neurodivergent.

Neurodiversity affirming approach in practice acknowledges that individuals have differences in their ability to interact with the world, which is a natural part of human variation. Clinicians who use neurodiversity affirming approaches do not look at these differences as shortcomings or something that needs to be “fixed”, instead they tailor their approach based on the individuals' specific needs.

Our team at OpenWorld is dedicated to providing neurodiversity affirming care. Check out our team or schedule a consultation.
