Assessments and Evaluations
ADHD Assessment
(Children and Adults)
ADHD assessment is aimed at evaluating underlying functioning for attention and executive functioning. The comprehensive evaluation will assess different domains of attention, such as vigilance, sustained attention, and working memory. Executive functioning skills, including planning, organizing, and task-orientation will be explored to learn more about how you function or how your child behaves at school, home, and during other activities.
Questions sometimes asked include: Do I have ADHD? Does my child have ADHD? What can I do to help empower my child with regard to their attention? My child’s pediatrician or teachers are concerned about their attention, what recommendations do you have to help?
IQ Assessment and
Educational Assessment
(Children and Adults)
The aim of the evaluation is to assess aptitude (IQ) and achievement. The comprehensive evaluation will assess different domains of thinking, including verbal and visual reasoning skills, processing speed, working memory, and school-based tasks. Attention and executive functioning skills, including planning, organizing, and task-orientation will sometimes also be explored to learn more about how your child behaves at school, home, and during other activities.
Questions sometimes asked include: Why is my child struggling in school? What are my child’s strengths and weaknesses? Are there any areas that can be helped or bolstered? Is my child gifted or twice exceptional?
Autism Assessment and Neurodevelopmental Assessment
(Children and Adults)
A comprehensive assessment tailor-made for toddlers, children, adolescents and adults who have unique learning profiles, complex backgrounds and histories, or have been recommended to receive a thorough evaluation of their intellectual abilities, achievement, and domains such as executive functioning, reading and writing processes, and screen for specific learning disabilities.
Questions sometimes asked include: Do I have autism? Does my child have autism? Does my child have a learning disorder, and what can I do to bolster their learning? Why is my child having difficulties with specific school-based tasks? Is it possible my child needs accommodations in school or at home?

ASSESSMENT FAQs
-
OpenWorld is a lifespan clinic, meaning evaluations are available for children (ages 3+) and adults.
-
Yes, Intellectual Quotient (IQ) is tested using measures that are commonly accepted for admissions, including the WISC-V and the WPPSI-IV. Our founder, Dr. Beard was part of a team that developed extended norms for the WISC-V, which are used when needed for giftedness testing (e.g., children who score >99.9th percentile). If your school admission requires a different test, contact us to let us know.
-
The first meeting for the evaluation is typically a consultation session, which is a 50–60-minute meeting with your evaluator to go over your primary concerns and (if applicable) do some initial observations to determine the plan for evaluation. During the consultation, your evaluator will ask questions about your/your child’s mental health, behaviors, development, language, school/work activities, and other domains to start to develop an evaluation plan.
-
For adults, just bring yourself! For a child evaluation, please bring your child to the assessment for a brief interview or observation. Depending on the child’s age, we might meet with the parents/caregivers separately or together for the initial consultation.
-
You will receive a link to our OpenWorld portal, which includes the office policies agreement and other forms to complete before your first meeting.
-
Payment for the consultation is billed at the hourly rate and will be due on the day of the evaluation. Insurance is not accepted at this time, but it is encouraged that you reach out to your insurance company to determine if you can be reimbursed for an out-of-network provider (e.g., submit a “super bill”).
